Director of Public Safety

I’m Rick, The Director of Public Safety for the City of Clayton.  Here in Clayton, we maximize the cohesiveness of the public safety departments, Police, Fire, and EMS by all working together under one Department Head.  The concept is not widely used on a nationwide basis but has grown in popularity, in the local area, since I was selected to fill the roll in January of 2004. 

Being on the ground floor and actively being a part of the dynamic growth of this small upscale community is both challenging and very rewarding.  We have great people who strive to provide the best police, fire and EMS services to our community. In return, we have excellent support from our citizens, are rewarded with an extremely high satisfaction rating in all three public safety services, and often receive hand written notes expressing appreciation and support for services rendered. 

The City of Clayton truly is a great place to work and live!

My name is Mark Ashworth and I came to the City of Clayton as the Assistant Fire Chief in 2005. I was challenged by the Director of Public Safety to help guide, develop and grow with a fire department that will soon be only 10 years old. That was an opportunity that I could not pass up! I have the great fortune of having a good strong employee base with the same vision as I; to provide the best, professional and compassionate fire and EMS services that the citizens of Clayton can be proud of.  

The department continues to grow and expand its services and has one of the most motivated groups of employees around. As the City grows, the department will continue to enhance its services so as to insure that all citizens living, playing and visiting our great City have the best protection possible.  

We keep getting better with age!
