Permits

To ensure the quality of Clayton's streets and properties, Chapter 904 of Clayton's Codified Ordinances lays out requirements for driveways, curb approaches and sidewalks within the Right-of-Way.

Installation or repair of driveways, curb and sidewalk requires a $55.00 permit. If you are hiring a contractor to do work on your driveway or sidewalks, they will need to provide a cash bond or security of no less than $25,000. During the construction process our City Inspector will review and inspect the project to ensure that the work meets our guidelines. If the property owner performs all of the work, the bond requirement will be waived, but they will still need to apply for a permit and have the project inspected.

Vinyl expansion joint material shall be used wherever new concrete abuts old concrete and as shown by the Clayton Standard Drawings.

If you have an asphalt driveway, you will need a Right-of-Way Permit if you are going to work on the driveway apron where it connects to the street. If you are resurfacing your asphalt driveway, you do not need a permit or an inspection.
