The City of Clayton has been ranked as the safest city in Montgomery County by the National Council for Home Safety and Security over the past several years based on FBI crime statistics.  The Clayton Police Department takes considerable amount of pride in this ranking and diligently patrols our streets ensuring the community continues to be the safest in Montgomery County. In addition to ensuring a proactive presence is maintained within our neighborhoods, the Clayton Police routinely participate in community outreach initiatives, such as the annual Police and Fire Open House, Coffee with a Cop and Christmas with a Cop which gives our officers opportunities to interact with the general public in a more personal way.

The Clayton Police Department is responsible for patrolling and protecting over13,000 residents, 18.4 square miles of land, and 218 miles of roadways, 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year. The Police Department's current authorized strength is 20 Officers.

Chief Matt Hamlin has been with the Clayton Police since 1997 and his responsibilities include overseeing the day-to-day operations of the members of the Police Department, Detective Bureau, and the Patrol Section. He is also responsible for policy and procedure development, budgeting, strategic goals and targeted actions.
