In 2023, the City of Clayton received a grant from the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) to create an Active Transportation Plan. This initiative aligns with the City’s Thoroughfare Plan and one of City Council’s key goals, connected communities.
An Active Transportation Plan examines all modes of non-motorized travel, including walking, biking, and scooter use, to improve connectivity and accessibility throughout the community.
After receiving the grant, ODOT selected Toole Design to assist the City in developing the plan. A committee was formed consisting of City Council members, staff, and community stakeholders, including Northmont City Schools, Miami Valley Career Technology Center (MVCTC), and the Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission (MVRPC).
In the summer of 2024, a community survey was conducted to gather feedback from residents on desired improvements and destinations for walking and biking.
During the fall of 2024, two public open houses were held to review the draft plan and collect additional input.
Following a Council Workshop on March 20, 2025, the Active Transportation Plan was officially adopted on May 1, 2025.
The City of Clayton looks forward to using this plan as a roadmap to enhance safety, connectivity, and quality of life for all residents.
